Biography

I joined Middlesex University in 2014 as Head of Initial TeacherEducation (Associate Professor). I have worked in the education sector since September 1984, starting out as a teacher of science in London secondary schools. My school teaching careerlasted 20 years with various posts, including Head of Science Faculty and  Headof Work-Related Learning. In 2003, I moved to work in Higher Education to  establish a PGCE in secondary science at London Metropolitan University. Thisis where I studied and gained my EdD. My thesis explored the reproduction of  inequities through the educational choices made on professional courses. 

In 2012,I moved to work with the NHS at the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Postgraduate Deaneryas an Assistant Dean of Education. This was a seconded position from theUniversity of London. Here, I provided Teacher Education for consultantdoctors and dentists, including teaching on a MA Teaching in Clinical Settings andsupporting the development of effective clinical teaching on hospital wards, insurgery, simulation suites and outpatient clinics. My work also included thedevelopment of governance and Quality Assurance for the educational provisionof postgraduate doctors in training.

At Middlesex University, I have responsibility for the overallprovision for Initial Teacher Education. This includes Partnership governance,compliance and Quality Assurance required for the DfE regulatory frameworks andOfsted.

I gained my EdD in 2013 from London Metropolitan University. I  have a MA (OXON) in Chemistry anda PGCE in Integrated Science from Kings College, London. I am a Senior Fellowof the Higher Education Academy.
